msys coreutils ======================================================================== GNU coreutils provides a collection of commonly used utilities essential to a standard POSIX environment. It comprises the former textutils, sh-utils, and fileutils packages. The cygwin port (on which this msys port is based) has several patches. Because Windows insists on naming executables with a `.exe' suffix, several of the utilities have been patched to automatically handle this suffix when given the traditional Unix name with no suffix (`cp', `install', `ln', and `mv'). Other issues arise because of the difference between text and binary mounts; some utilities default to binary mode and others attempt to respect the underlying mount point, depending on the most common usage pattern of the utility. `df' attempts to recognize Cygwin's mount information, but cannot determine the underlying file systems (FAT, NTFS, NFS, etc.). Several utilities (`basename', `dirname', and `mv', for example) have been patched to recognize that // is distinct from /. Also, `ls' and `stat' have a cygwin-specific option, --append-exe, to add .exe to a filename if needed. This version has been modified and compiled for use in the MSYS environment. It should be installed into the / == /usr directory, which is usually but not always, C:\msys\1.0. It is built with NLS support, which is why the applications are somewhat larger than corresponding instances from previous releases. It is delivered in several sub-packages: bin: Contains those applications that were historically part of the standard MSYS installation. ext: Contains "the rest" of the coreutils applications (that can actually build on msys; for instance, hostid is not present because it requires an OS function not provided by msys). lang: (optional) the NLS message catalogs. doc: documentation lic: license files src: source code Runtime requirements: msysCORE-1.0.13-2-msys-1.0.13-bin libintl-0.17-2-msys-1.0.13-dll-8 libiconv-1.13.1-2-msys-dll-2 libtermcap-0.20050421_1-2-msys-1.0.13-dll-0 Build requirements (these, or newer) MSYS toolchain binutils-2.19.51-3-msys-1.0.13-bin gcc-3.4.4-3-msys-1.0.13-bin w32api-3.14-3-msys-1.0.12-dev msysCORE-1.0.13-2-msys-1.0.13-dev Devel Tools and Dependent Libraries autoconf-2.65-1-msys-1.0.13-bin automake-1.11.1-1-msys-1.0.13-bin libiconv-1.13.1-2-msys-1.0.13-bin libiconv-1.13.1-2-msys-1.0.13-dev gettext-0.17-2-msys-1.0.13-bin gettext-0.17-2-msys-1.0.13-dev libgettextpo-0.17-2-msys-1.0.13-dll-0 libtool-2.2.7a-2-msys-1.0.13-bin texinfo-4.13a-2-msys-1.0.13-bin libtermcap-0.20050421_1-2-msys-1.0.13-dev MSYS Environment perl-5.6.1_2-2-msys-1.0.13-bin libcrypt-1.1_1-3-msys-1.0.13-dll-0 libgdbm-1.8.3-3-msys-1.0.13-dll-3 zlib-1.2.3-2-msys-1.0.13-dll coreutils-5.97-2-msys-1.0.11-bin make-3.81-2-msys-1.0.11-bin bash-3.1.17-2-msys-1.0.11-bin tar-1.23-2-msys-1.0.13-bin bzip2-1.0.5-2-msys-1.0.13-bin libbz2-1.0.5-2-msys-1.0.13-dll-1 xz-4.999.9beta_20100401-1-msys-1.0.13-bin liblzma-4.999.9beta_20100401-1-msys-1.0.13-dll-1 file-5.04-2-msys-1.0.13-bin grep-2.5.4-2-msys-1.0.13-bin sed-4.2.1-2-msys-1.0.13-bin gawk-3.1.7-2-msys-1.0.13-bin cvs-1.12.13-2-msys-1.0.13-bin Canonical homepage: https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/coreutils Canonical download: ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/ (unstable releases, like 6.0) ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/ (stable releases, like 6.6) License: GPLv3+ Language: C ======================================================================== Build instructions: unpack coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-src.tar.lzma ./msys-build-coreutils coreutils-5.97.tar.bz2 This will create: coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-src.tar.lzma coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-bin.tar.lzma coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-ext.tar.lzma coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-lang.tar.lzma coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-doc.tar.lzma coreutils-5.97-3-msys-1.0.13-lic.tar.lzma ======================================================================== Test suite results This section of this document is updated with each new release. No history is maintained here. The test results are pretty bad, at first glance: lots of failed or skipped tests. However, inspection shows that most of these problems are artifacts of deliberate msys design choices: `ln -s' makes a copy, for instance. Actual use seems to bear this out: the tools seem to work just fine. ======================================================================== Port Notes: ---------- coreutils-5.97-3 -- 2010 Apr 27 ----------- * Rebuild with latest msys-gcc-3.x compiler, against msys 1.0.13 * Link against DLL version of libintl and libiconv ---------- coreutils-5.97-2 -- 2009 Nov 07 ----------- * ---------- coreutils-5.97-1 -- 2009 Nov 01 ----------- * First release of coreutils for msys using new packaging standard.
